A Renewed Church is Coming!

Dear friends, in the next few weeks you are going to see several initiatives we have been working and praying for coming to life. Our Strategic Planning Team will present the road map for the future of our Church to our Parish Leadership. We will share the news in the coming weeks; look for a special double-issue of the Print Cloak in early July.

Then, several of our Capital Campaign initiatives will be clearly visible for all to see. Our soon to be fully restored Organ will be playable in the coming weeks. And, the exterior work, restoring the lake facing fascia’s, will begin in July. Thank you all who have so generously contributed! At the same time a major re-roofing and painting project, because of serious hail damage several years ago and covered by our insurers, will also begin.

Signs of new life for the future, new sounds, and new construction will abound. This is also an important time to pray renewal for our Church and for our lives. Our future in God is exciting!

A Prayer for Renewal.

Lord God

renew your Church

and begin with me,

heal our land

tend our wounds

and make us one,

and use us in your service;

For Jesus Christ’s sake

Lord of the Church,

make us the Church of the Lord.

Summer Reading & Preaching Series: When in Romans

Everyone enjoys long Summer days of uninterrupted reading. The summer also provides your preachers an opportunity to read and preach all, or most, of one book of the Bible. This summer our Lectionary, or schedule of readings, features Paul’s Letter to the Romans. So we will preach a summer-long uninterrupted series, called When in Romans. There are two companions for the series. The first, of course, is to pick up and read Paul’s Letter to the Romans found in a Bible near you. And, the preachers will also be using a wonderful newer book called, you guessed it, When in Romans by leading New Testament scholar Beverly Roberts Gaventa. (You can purchase the book on Amazon: )

You can now Run, Walk, Bike, Roller-blade, Drive and even BOAT to Church.

Thanks to our Communication’s Team, who have worked very hard to promote our Church to the Community, we now have TWO, count 'em, TWO, Day-Use Docks.

Our Docks are installed across from the Church parking lot; do look for the St. Martin's sign. Two things to remember:

1) The Dock is for the day-use of St. Martin’s members and our guests; so come to Church by boat.

2) For families with children, children under the age of 12 will need to to be accompanied by an adult at all times crossing Shoreline Drive.

Organ Refurbishment Updates

All nine hundred and ninety pipes have returned to our organ. The team of Grandall and Engen are in the process of re-voicing pipes that have suffered from metallic fatigue, the result of age and excessive exposure to heat and humidity. We are entering the final stage of a refurbishment that has silenced our organ for two months after considering the size and necessity of the project and allocating specific funds for almost a decade. Our instrument is expected to resume leading worship and solemnize all weddings and funerals by July 16th.

I am grateful for those who count the calling to the Diaconate and Priesthood their vocation; and their willingness to serve here at St. Martin's by the Lake alongside me as well. From this Sunday on throughout the Summer you will usually see me and the Rev. Deacon Cindy Hillger with you on Sundays. If one of us is away on vacation you will see one of our two Assisting priests, the Rev's. Roger Sonnesyn and Jeff Hupf.

Just a reminder that Fr. Jeff is a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, and is available to meet members of St. Martin's through his practice. Please make arrangements through his Office: 952-446-6115. (For more info on his practice: We will also update you on our plans for the Rev. Richard Byrd Memorial Curacy in the near future.

With every blessing,

Rev. Dave Langille / Rector
